Albert A. Friddles
East Washingtonian, Oct. 11, 1928
Albert A. Friddles died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. R.
Scarborough, this city, on October 5, after a lingering illness, and was
buried at the Grove cemetery, near Bartlett, Oregon.
Albert Ananias Friddles was born in North Carolina May 22, 1854, and
lived with his parents to Baughtville, (actually Vaughtsville) TN at an
early age. There he grew to young manhood and married Miss Cordelia Baught
(actually Vaught) 43 years ago.
In the spring of 1887, the subject of this sketch came to Garfield county
with some other emigrants from Tennessee. R. W. G. ? of this county was with
Mr. Friddles, having come from the same place in the south.
There were born six children to Mr. and Mrs. Friddles, four of whom
survive. Arthur Friddles, a son, well known in Pomeroy and rememberd for
having operated the first automobile replair shope here, died a few years
ago, and an infant daughter died when about a year old. Mrs. Friddles died
in 1901.
The four surviving childen of deceased are: Mrs. Elva Scarbrough,
Pomeroy, Mrs. Bessie Ray, Joseph and Robert Friddles, all of Grouse Flat,
Oregon.
The body of the deceased was taken to Bartlett where burial was made
October 7th beside the body of his wife. Edward Moore of Grouse, conducting
the services. The remains were charge of C.M. Vassar until removed to
Grouse.
The pall bearers were: Charlie Davis, Ray Knight, Leslie Harding, Emory
Lyons, Evert Richmond and Arthur Courtney all of Grouse Flat.

Robert E. Friddles - Claimed at 88

Robert E. Friddles, 88, a retired Grouse Flat farmer and an early
resident of Pomeroy, passed away Sunday night, October 7 at Clarkston's Rest
Haven nursing home. He had been ill for 15 months.
Friddles was born October 29, 1884, at Vaughtsville, TN, the son of Mr.
and Mr.s Albert A. Friddles. He moved with his parents to Pomeroy while
still a child, attended school here and later lived at Troy, Oregon.
In 1911, he moved to Canada by way of the Yakima and Okanogan valleys, He
traveled by horseback, paying his way by roping and breaking wild horses.
He returned to Troy in 1925 and joined a brother, Joe, in farming. Joe
passed away in October 1963. he then lived with the Willard Mallory family,
continuing to operate his 440 acre ranch until 1968, when moved to Asotin to
live with Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Bartlett. He moved to the nursing home in 1972
after breaking his hip in a fall.
He is survived by a sister, Mrs Elvia Fred, Clarkston; and niecess Ella
Finley, Geneva Hansen, Alta Wilkinson, Ozelle Scoggins, and Odess, Delta,
and Lois. Funeral will be conducted Thursday, October 11, at 11 a.m. at
Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home, Lewiston. Internment will be at Pomeroy City
Cemetery.

He married Mabel Whipple April 21, 1930, in Helena, Mont. She died in
October 1963.
He married Elvia I. McFadden June 20, 1965, and she died Feb. 11, 1987.
He was past master of the Marysville Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed hunting,
fishing and traveling and spending time with his grandchildren and
great-grandchildren.
Survivors include two sons, Charles Fred of Asotin and Darrell Fred of
Clarkston; a brother, John Fred of Helena; a sister, Ella Johnson of Helena;
seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Cremation will take place and a private family service will be held at a
later date. Inurnment will be at Vineland Cemetery in Clarkston.
The family suggests memorials be contributions to Masonic Lodge Ottawa
No. 51, Marysville, MT 59640. Merchant Funeral Home in Clarkston is in
charge of arrangements.
